Steve Stokes | Specialist Maths Tutor – Primary, Secondary, Adults and Neurodiverse learners
👤 ABOUT STEVE
I am a specialist maths tutor with a background in education and professional work supporting diverse learners. I have worked across primary education, secondary support, adult learning, and community-based roles.
Before focusing fully on maths tutoring, I worked for many years as a qualified Occupational Therapist, supporting people with a wide range of learning, cognitive, and life challenges. I am not currently practising as an Occupational Therapist and now work exclusively as a maths tutor.
This background helps me understand how people think, learn, and sometimes struggle — especially when traditional teaching approaches have not worked for them.
Teaching philosophy
I believe maths should be:
Understandable
Logical
Taught at the learner’s pace
Free from shame or pressure
My role is not to rush content, but to build solid foundations and confidence.
As a qualified educator with experience as a primary and secondary school teacher, occupational therapist, and mental health & community support worker, I have worked with children and adults across a wide range of abilities, including individuals with learning difficulties and additional support needs.
I believe everyone can learn maths with the right support, teaching style, and encouragement.
